Explore all placesPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania · Prison
Voices, darting shadows and faces glimpsed in cellblocks belong to Eastern State’s ghost lore. Philadelphia’s preserved prison also tells a demanding human history. Visitors may explore through its historic-site programs, but the operator expressly prohibits paranormal investigations and investigation equipment.
Edinburgh, Scotland · Castle
A fortress above the Old Town, where royal history meets a phantom piper, a headless drummer and a wandering ghost dog.
Estes Park, Colorado · Hotel
Above Estes Park, the Stanley’s ghost stories often take the form of unfinished hospitality: clothes folded, luggage unpacked and shoes put in order. Room 217 anchors the tradition, while guided tours introduce a hotel whose history also helped inspire The Shining.
San Jose, California · Historic house
Sarah Winchester’s sprawling San Jose mansion carries two intertwined mysteries: the extraordinary house she built and the stories later told about why she built it. Voices reported without visible speakers and basement haunting traditions accompany rooms that preserve decades of alteration and craftsmanship.
Cloverland / Brazil vicinity, Indiana · Cemetery
Ghosts of Indiana retells a legend in which the cemetery's first undertaker appears above the staircase and shows visitors a vision of their death. Conflicting counts on the ascent and descent supposedly determine the vision's fate. Other tales describe an unseen hand pushing people who stray from the steps.
Supernatural claims are attributed accounts. Historical backstories have not been independently corroborated. Not Cloverdale Cemetery, a separate location.
Syracuse, New York · Road or bridge
Cedarvale Road’s best-known apparition is the Bloody Bride, a woman in a wedding dress reportedly seen beside the winding roadway. The Lineup recounts rival versions: newlyweds died in a wreck, or the bride survived and later returned as a ghost to search for her husband. Other versions replace the car with a horse-drawn buggy.
Honolulu, Hawaii · Road or bridge
The bridge’s local story concerns a girl who approaches pedestrians and asks for help finding her way home. As told by Haunted Places, she cannot leave the bridge: when she reaches either end, she disappears. The story connects her to a hit-and-run death, though the directory provides no documentary evidence for that backstory.
Cheyenne, Wyoming · Other
Tenants of the old fire-department building reportedly see a man in dark trousers and a white shirt on the upper floor. In the submitted story he walks through the building before disappearing.
Savannah, Georgia · Hotel
The inn’s stories follow three different figures. Visit Savannah describes Anna waiting upstairs for a lost lover, a cook heard banging pots in the kitchen, and a servant boy glimpsed near diners. The overlapping tales link overnight guest rooms with the restaurant’s daily work rather than placing every encounter in a single room.
Macon, Georgia · Hotel
Travel writer Alex Temblador reports waking at the 1842 Inn after three touches to her upper arm. Her companion was asleep beside her, and she could see nobody else in the room. In the Fodor’s account, a local paranormal team later told her it had also experienced unsettling incidents at the inn.
